The first exhibition at VI, VII opened in the summer of 2012. In honor of the gallery’s tenth year, we are delighted to present “X Years,” a group exhibition which looks to the gallery’s past, present and future.
A selection of audio tracks by artists in the exhibition plays forming a musical backdrop.
At the center of the the exhibition is a model of exchange. An exemplar copy of the edition “Will You Go, Will You Give, Will You Bid, Say – Here – Down (2022) by Hamburg based artists, Jochen Schmith hangs framed, on the wall. The visuals on the postcard are constructed from the exhibition history of the collective’s curriculum vitae. Visitors are welcome to take a signed edition if they leave something behind in its place. So far, these objects have included a lightbulb, worn slippers and an empty packet of medication. The resulting altar of visitation that builds throughout the course of the show is a nod to the organic and methodical build up of gestures, history and exchanges that the exhibition celebrates.
